On The Way to a Smile

On the Way to a Smile is a set of three stories written by Kazushige Nojima, scenario writer for Advent Children. Two of these novellas were first published by Square-Enix in the FFVII Advent Children Prologue book. In February 2007, official English translations of these stories, along with a third story entitled Case of Barret, were published in the Advent Children Collector's Edition. These novellas embellish the story of Advent Children while telling about the two years between the end of Final Fantasy VII and the start of Advent Children. The text of the stories as it appears below are not the official translations. Maiden of the Planet

Before the release of Advent Children, Tetsuya Nomura told the staff of Bentstudio that he wanted a new book about Final Fantasy VII made so that fans could enjoy the game once again. As a result, an in-depth guidebook to Final Fantasy VII called Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega was published by Studio Bentstuff. This book includes a complete walkthrough of the original game, a detailed analysis of the story and its locations, original concept art, and an introduction to the Compilation. Also included in the book is a short story named The Maiden who Travels the Planet, which is commonly referred to as Maiden of the Planet. This novella was written by Benny Matsuyama under the supervision of Square-Enix, and it focuses on Aerith's spirit as she travels the Lifestream during Disks Two and Three of Final Fantasy VII.
